Question:
Daughter #2 is just settling in to her new University course - Computer Science, at Reading. She has elected to take a Cybernetics module, but finds that no text has been recommended for that module. Can anyrat recommend a text on Cybernetics suitable for a first year computing science undergrad?
It's a difficult subject in that the term seems to be used quite widely
and wildly. The books by Norbert Weiner are probably worth looking at as he is credited with coining the term, though whether they are entirely suitable or worth buying is another thing. Volleyball Cybernetics is probably not going to be so useful :-) Can the course
tutor/lecturer/writer really not recommend anything?
H2G2 Published by the Cyrius Cybernetics Corporation and revised from
time to time. It's the standard reference for all things cybernetic.
In fact it's the standard reference for all things.
Get her to find a second year who took the module last year. Ask them
which book they found most useful.
A student's idea of a good book to learn from isn't always the same as a
lecturer's idea of a good book to teach from!
