Question:
I was reminded today that the Cockney rhyming slang for a watch is a
kettle. Can any umrat please explain the link?
Really? I thought it was a shilling - kettle on the hob = bob.

Watch - Kettle
Kettle and Pot = Lot where a Gentleman's Lot was the name given to the fob
chain and watch worn across his waistcoat. As a Gentleman progressed
through the ranks of society, so he would change his fob watch from steel
to silver to gold and so his "Gentlemen's Lot" would increase in stature.
